Summer is well and truly underway (although as I write this, it’s raining…) and as a bridal make-up artist, this is a very busy but rewarding time of year for me.

I am looking forward to meeting up with my “MAC Cosmetics Family” to view the new collections which will appear in stores over the next few months. This is when I get to play with makeup all day - who said work and play don’t mix well?!

PREVENT MAKE-UP MELTDOWN WHEN THE MERCURY IS RISING....
- Try not to layer too many products
- Choose waterproof formulas for eyeliner/mascara
- Keep foundation sheer and water based
- Use a mattifying face primer that controls oil and shine
- Set your foundation/concealer with a loose mineralise powder
- DO NOT “load up” on powder as this creates a “cakey” look
- Invest in a hydrating makeup setting spray
- Keep blotting papers handy in your beach bag
- Ensure at least one of the following contains SPF protection: moisturiser, face primer or foundation

We've gone contour-crazy thanks to certain celebrities who've perfected this technique with a little help from their make-up artists!
Applied correctly and according to your face shape, contouring and highlighting will create the illusion of a perfectly proportioned and sculpted face.
Determining your face shape will help you decide where to place your highlights and contours and what features you’d like to define or downplay.
Use either cream or matte powder products to define and sculpt depending on your preference but I find cream concealers are the easiest to blend.
Begin with a moisturised and primed face then apply your regular foundation and conceal any dark circles/blemishes.
Step 1
Highlight - Apply a concealer two shades lighter than your foundation using a flat foundation or concealer brush:
- Just below the eyebrows
- Centre of your forehead
- Bridge of your nose (not the tip)
- Under the eye area and above cheek bones
- Just above your top lip in centre (Cupid’s Bow)
- Centre of chin
Step 2
Contour - Apply a concealer two shades darker than your complexion to:
- Either side of your nose
- Tip of your nose
- Hollows of your cheeks
- Under your cheekbones extending up and out towards your hairline in a triangle
- Just below your jawline
- From your temples to your hairline
Step 3
Blend - Using a small firm but fluffy brush, begin blending the two shades to eliminate any hard edges.
Tip: use small circular strokes.:
Step 4
Cheeks & Powder - Enhance by applying a light blush to the apples of your cheeks then set with loose translucent powder.
Tip: For a wow factor - pop a shimmery bronzer onto cheekbones!
